Plants | Assessment Review
A hands-on, teacher-led review of key plant concepts for Pre-K students. Children will observe, sort, talk, draw, and act out plant parts and needs to prepare for an assessment. The lesson uses visuals, movement, and repeated practice to support young learners.

Show a real plant or flower. Ask simple review questions: What do you see? What color is it? Is it a plant? Introduce the lesson as a game to help us remember plant facts.
Observe the plant, answer questions, and share prior knowledge.
Use picture cards to review plant parts and plant needs. Point to each card, name it, and have children repeat. Build a simple anchor chart with plant parts and what plants need.
Repeat vocabulary, point to pictures, and help place cards on the chart.
Model a sorting activity using cards. Sort plant parts from plant needs. Then guide students in small groups or as a whole group to match pictures to the correct category.
Sort and match cards with teacher support, explain choices using simple words.
Call out plant vocabulary and actions. Example: "Roots!" children crouch low; "Stem!" children stand tall; "Leaves!" children stretch arms; "Water!" children pretend to pour water over a plant.
Move, respond, and practice vocabulary through actions.
Give each child paper to draw a plant. Ask them to include at least two plant parts and one thing the plant needs. Confer with children individually, asking them to name parts or needs in their drawing.
Draw a plant, add details, and orally identify parts or needs to the teacher.
Bring students together and ask a few final questions: What does a plant need? Name one plant part. Use thumbs up/down or picture response cards to check understanding.
Answer questions, show responses, and listen to peers.
End with a quick chant: "Roots, stem, leaves, and flower; plants need water, sun, and more power!" Review the anchor chart one last time and celebrate student effort.
Use teacher observation during sorting, oral responses, and the draw-and-tell task to assess whether each child can identify plant parts and plant needs. Record notes on a simple checklist.
Send home a one-page plant scavenger hunt. Children and families look for a plant at home or outside, draw it, and talk about one plant part they can see and one thing it needs to grow.
