Sequencing | Review Lesson
Students will review sequencing by putting familiar story events and daily routines in order using picture cards, oral language, and simple retells.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| sequence | the order that events happen |
| first | the one that happens at the beginning |
| next | the one that happens after first |
| then | the one that happens after that |
| last | the one that happens at the end |
Show 3 familiar routine pictures. Ask, 'What happens first?' Model using first, next, then, and last.
Name the pictures, respond to questions, and repeat the sequence words with the teacher.
Use one set of story picture cards. Think aloud while placing them in order and retelling the events with sequence words.
Watch, listen, and join in on repeated sequence words.
Give pairs or small groups a second set of sequencing cards. Support students as they place the cards in order and explain their thinking.
Work with a partner to order the cards, then orally retell the sequence using first, next, then, and last.
Provide a simple 3- or 4-step sequencing sheet or strip for students to complete independently.
Cut, glue, or number the pictures in order and say the sequence aloud to a teacher or peer.
Invite a few students to share their sequences. Restate the correct order and reinforce the vocabulary.
Present their work and listen to classmates' retells.
Review the sequence words one more time and celebrate that stories and routines have an order. Ask students to tell one thing that happens first in their day.
Send home a simple 3-picture sequencing strip. Students retell the order to a family member using first, next, then, and last.
