Ancient Greece | Review Lesson
Students will review simple economics ideas by connecting them to Ancient Greece through pictures, stories, and play. The lesson is designed for Pre-K learners and focuses on identifying needs, wants, goods, services, and simple jobs in an easy, hands-on way.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Need | Something people must have, like food or water. |
| Want | Something people would like to have, but do not need. |
| Goods | Things people make or use. |
| Services | Help people do for others. |
| Job | A way people work to help others. |
| Ancient Greece | A long time ago, in a place called Greece. |
Show a picture of Ancient Greece. Ask, 'What do you see?' and briefly connect to people long ago having different jobs and needs.
Children point, name pictures, and share simple ideas.
Hold up picture cards one at a time. Say each item clearly and help students decide if it is a need or a want.
Children respond by saying 'need' or 'want' and repeat the words.
Place two bins or spaces labeled with pictures for needs and wants. Show Ancient Greece-themed cards such as bread, water, pottery, sandals, music, and toys. Guide children to sort each card.
Children take turns placing cards in the correct bin with teacher support.
Show simple job cards such as farmer, potter, baker, and shopkeeper. Explain that people worked to make goods or help others.
Children repeat job names and mimic simple actions, like pretending to knead bread or shape clay.
Ask quick review questions: 'Is bread a need or a want?' 'What does a potter make?' Praise correct answers and participation.
Children answer with words, gestures, or pointing.
Close by saying, 'People in Ancient Greece had needs, wants, and jobs just like we do.' Have students repeat the key words: need, want, goods, services, and job.
Ask your child to find one need and one want at home and tell you the difference. They can also name one job a person does in the home or community.
