Forces | Assessment Review
In this 15-minute assessment review, students will use simple art materials to show how pushing and pulling change how marks are made. The lesson is hands-on, movement-based, and age-appropriate for Pre-K learners.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Force | A push or a pull that makes something move. |
| Push | To move something away from you. |
| Pull | To bring something toward you. |
| Mark | A line, dot, or shape made on paper. |
Show a picture card of pushing and model a push with both hands. Then show pulling and model a pull. Invite students to copy the motions in the air.
Copy the teacher’s push and pull movements and say the words aloud or repeat after the teacher.
Give each student paper and crayons/markers. Ask students to make one page of marks using strong pushes, light pushes, and pulling motions with their hands across the paper. Prompt: 'Show me a push line' and 'Show me a pull line.'
Draw lines, dots, and swirls while using different hand motions. Follow simple teacher prompts and try both pushing and pulling movements while drawing.
Hold up a push or pull picture card and ask students to point, show the motion, or choose the matching action with a toy object.
Identify the correct action by pointing, moving, or choosing the matching picture/object.
Invite students to share one mark they made and say whether it was made with a push or a pull. Praise effort and participation.
Show their artwork and name or repeat one force word with support.
Review the words force, push, and pull one more time. Celebrate that students used art to show how forces move things and make marks.
Observe each student during the movement and drawing activities for understanding of push, pull, and force. Use their responses, actions, and artwork as evidence of learning.
