Vocabulary | Assessment Review
Students review familiar vocabulary by naming, describing, and matching words to pictures. The lesson uses quick oral practice, visual supports, and simple partner response to prepare for a vocabulary check-in. This is an assessment review lesson with no formal assessment.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| vocabulary | words we know and use |
| picture | an image that shows a word |
| match | to put things that go together |
| describe | to tell about something using words |
Show 3–4 picture cards one at a time. Say, "What is it?" and guide students to name each picture together.
Chorally name each picture and repeat the word.
Place several picture cards and word cards in view. Model matching one word to one picture, then invite students to help match the rest.
Help match cards by saying the word and pointing to the correct picture.
Hold up a picture card and ask simple prompts such as "What do you see?" "What color is it?" or "What can it do?"
Respond with one-word or short-phrase answers, such as naming, describing, or repeating the word.
Have students turn to a partner and choose one card to name and describe.
Take turns naming one picture and saying one describing word.
Show 2 final cards and ask the class to say the words together. Praise effort and remind students they used their vocabulary well.
Say the words aloud with the teacher and listen for the next step.
End by reviewing the words one last time and celebrating students' clear speaking and matching work.
Send home 3 picture cards or a simple word list. Ask families to practice naming each word and describing one thing about it.
