| rhythm | a pattern of beats |

| word problem | a story that asks us to solve a question |
Lead students in clapping, tapping, and counting 1-10 with a steady beat. Model listening and repeating simple patterns.
Copy the teacher’s claps, taps, and counting. Say numbers aloud together.
Show each vocabulary word with a quick gesture or sound. Give a simple example of add and take away using instruments.
Repeat the words, act them out, and answer quick oral questions.
Present 3-4 short word problems. Example: 'Three students play drums. Two more join. How many drummers now?' Use counters or instruments to model each problem.
Use counters, fingers, or instruments to solve each problem and say the answer aloud.
Pair students and give each pair one picture card problem. Circulate and support counting and explaining.
Work with a partner to act out the problem, count the sounds, and share the answer.
Ask students to choose one teacher-read problem and draw the answer or circle the correct number on a simple sheet.
Draw, count, or mark the correct answer independently.
Play a quick yes/no or thumbs-up/thumbs-down review game with one final word problem.
Respond quickly and explain with a sentence or gesture.
Review that word problems tell a story and ask a question. Students share one thing they did today to solve music problems, such as counting beats, adding sounds, or taking away sounds.
Teacher observation during whole-group, partner, and independent activities. Collect the independent drawing/answer sheet or note each student’s response during the closing review game to check understanding of one-step word problems.
Send home a simple family music word problem sheet with 2-3 picture problems. Students can solve by clapping, counting, or drawing the answer with a grown-up.
