Distribute the word list and direct students to review the words silently. Prompt them to cover definitions and write any words they already know from memory.
Independently recall and write as many vocabulary words as possible, focusing on correct spelling.
Instruct students to choose 6-8 words from the list, define each in their own words, and break each word into prefixes, roots, and suffixes when possible.
Work independently to analyze word structure, write meanings, and check for patterns that help with spelling.
Ask students to write one original, grammatically correct sentence for each of 4 selected words, using the words accurately and in context.
Create original sentences that demonstrate correct meaning, spelling, and usage.
Direct students to review their work using a dictionary or word list, correcting any misspellings and revising unclear definitions.
Check spelling and usage independently and make corrections.
Ask students to star one word they mastered and one word they still need to review. Collect or quickly scan work if desired for completion.
Reflect on strengths and remaining challenges, then prepare for dismissal.
Students identify one word they know well and one word they need to review, reinforcing self-awareness and next-step practice.
Choose 5 advanced vocabulary words from class and complete for each: correct spelling, definition in your own words, one original sentence, and one word part breakdown if possible.
