Number Sense | Guided Practice
Students will use basic art elements and number patterns to create a simple, visually appealing design. Through guided practice, they will explore how numbers can be represented, repeated, and organized in art using symmetry, pattern, and proportion.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Pattern | A repeated design or sequence. |
| Symmetry | When one side of a design matches the other side. |
| Sequence | A set of numbers or shapes that follows an order. |
| Proportion | The size relationship between parts of an artwork. |
| Repetition | Using the same element more than once. |
Show a simple artwork with repeating shapes or a number-based pattern. Ask students what they notice about the pattern and where numbers might appear in art.
Observe the example, share ideas, and name repeated shapes, lines, or groups.
Model a quick design using a number pattern such as 2, 4, 6 or a repeated shape sequence. Explain how the numbers connect to the visual design.
Listen, ask questions, and identify the pattern in the model.
Guide students as they create their own simple pattern-based artwork. Prompt them to choose one number pattern and turn it into a visual design using shapes, lines, or colors.
Create a drawing following the teacher's steps, using a chosen number pattern and repeating visual elements.
Ask a few students to show their work and explain the pattern they used. Reinforce how numbers can be represented visually.
Share artwork, explain the number pattern, and listen to peers.
Review the idea that number sense can appear in art through patterns, repetition, and symmetry. Ask students to name one way they used numbers in their artwork.
Students will be assessed on whether they created a visual artwork that clearly shows a number pattern, used repetition or symmetry correctly, and can explain their pattern verbally or in writing.
Find one example of a number pattern in everyday life or in art at home, and sketch it or write two sentences describing it.
