Display a map of ancient Greece and briefly remind students that Greece had mountains and many islands. Ask students to think about how geography might affect buying, selling, and trading.
Observe the map and quietly write one idea about how geography could affect trade.
Review the directions for the independent practice. Read one sample question aloud and model how to use the text and vocabulary words to find the answer.
Listen, follow along on the worksheet, and ask any quick clarification questions.
Circulate to support students, answer questions, and redirect as needed. Encourage students to use the word bank and text evidence.
Read the short passage independently and complete the questions or tasks on the worksheet.
Invite students to compare answers with a partner or check a few responses as a class if time allows. Clarify any common misunderstandings.
Review answers, make corrections, and add missing details.
Ask students to share one way trade helped people in ancient Greece. Restate the main idea: geography affected resources, and trade helped people get what they needed.
Share one takeaway verbally or in writing and listen for the key idea.
Students write or share one sentence explaining how geography and trade affected ancient Greek life.
Write a short paragraph: How did trade help people in ancient Greece meet their needs? Include at least two vocabulary words.
