|---|---|
| sequence | The correct order of parts, sounds, or steps. |

Briefly review that sequencing means putting sounds, syllables, or word parts in the correct order. Model one example word and show how to break it apart before spelling it.
Listen, read the example, and prepare materials.
Give students the independent practice task. Circulate quietly to monitor work, clarify directions, and prompt students to use sequencing strategies rather than guessing.
Independently complete spelling exercises by breaking words into parts, sequencing the parts, and writing each word carefully.
Ask students to compare their spelling to a provided model or word bank and mark any words they need to fix.
Check work, correct errors, and note patterns that helped with spelling.
Invite students to write or say one strategy that helped them sequence a difficult word correctly.
Reflect on the strategy used and share one example of a word they spelled correctly using sequencing.
End by reminding students that strong spellers use sequencing to organize sounds and word parts. Ask them to name one strategy they can use next time they meet a difficult word.
