Human Body | Project Based Learning
Students will explore the major body systems and create a simple collaborative model or poster that shows how the human body parts and systems work together to keep us alive and healthy. This project-based lesson is designed for hands-on learning, teamwork, and clear understanding of basic human body functions.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Organ | A body part that does a special job, like the heart or lungs. |
| System | A group of organs that work together to do an important job. |
| Skeleton | The bones that support and protect the body. |
| Muscles | Body parts that help us move. |
| Heart | An organ that pumps blood through the body. |
| Lungs | Organs that help us breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. |
| Brain | The control center of the body that helps us think, feel, and move. |
Show a simple body diagram or short image. Ask: What body parts do you know? What jobs do they do? Record student ideas.
Share prior knowledge, name body parts, and predict how they work together.
Set up quick stations or small-group cards for the skeleton, muscles, heart, lungs, and brain. Give each group one system to observe and discuss.
Rotate or work in groups to read, look, and talk about each system's job.
Briefly explain the main systems in simple language and connect each system to its function. Model how to use vocabulary words correctly.
Listen, answer questions, and take notes or add labels to a class anchor chart.
Explain the project task: create a poster or simple model showing at least three body systems and how they work together. Provide a checklist and examples.
Choose a format, plan roles, and sketch a design or layout.
Circulate, ask guiding questions, and support groups with labeling, spelling, and ideas. Encourage clear connections between body parts and jobs.
Work in teams to build and label the project, adding drawings, captions, or materials.
Invite groups to present briefly. Ask classmates to name one thing they learned from each project.
Present their work, explain body system functions, and listen to peers.
Review the main systems and ask students to complete the statement: 'One thing I learned about the human body is ____.'. End by celebrating how the body works as a team of parts and systems.
