Introduce the theme word list and explain that students will practice spelling through centers.
Listen, look at the words, and get ready for center work.
Model sorting 2-3 words by spelling pattern or vowel sound, then release students to sort the rest.
Sort words into groups and explain why they belong together.
Prompt students to choose 3 theme words and write each one in a sentence or short phrase.
Write words carefully, check spelling, and read sentences aloud quietly or to a partner.
Provide letters or magnetic tiles and ask students to build 2-3 theme words.
Construct words, say the letters aloud, and compare their spelling to the word list.
Review one or two tricky words with the class and praise accurate spelling strategies.
Share one word they spelled correctly or one pattern they noticed.
Bring students together and ask them to name one spelling strategy they used today, such as sorting, sounding out, or building the word.
Teacher observation during centers, completed word sort, and sentence writing will be used to check spelling accuracy and understanding of word patterns.
