Human Body | Review Lesson
In this 20-minute review lesson, students revisit human body systems by using coding ideas such as sequence, inputs, outputs, and algorithms. They will practice translating body functions into simple code-like steps and debug a short routine. The lesson is designed to be challenging while remaining accessible for Grade 4.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Algorithm | A step-by-step set of instructions to complete a task. |
| Sequence | The correct order of steps in an algorithm. |
| Input | Information or signals that enter a system. |
| Output | What a system produces or does after receiving input. |
| Debug | To find and fix mistakes in code or steps. |
| System | A group of parts that work together. |
Ask students to name one human body system and one coding word they remember. Record a few responses on the board.
Share quick answers and listen for connections between body systems and coding terms.
Show a body system card, such as the digestive, respiratory, or nervous system. Guide students to describe it using coding language: input, process, output, and sequence.
Discuss how the body system works and help match the coding term to the body function.
Give students a short mixed-up algorithm about a body process, such as breathing or digestion. Model how to debug it by putting steps in the correct order.
Work with a partner to reorder the steps and explain why the sequence matters.
Ask students to write one simple algorithm for a human body action, such as blinking, swallowing, or picking up a pencil, using at least two vocabulary words.
Write a short response independently.
Invite one or two students to share their algorithms and restate the key idea that body systems work in ordered steps.
Listen, compare answers, and correct misunderstandings if needed.
Review the big idea: the human body works like a system, and coding uses ordered steps to make something happen. Ask students to say one new connection between coding and the human body before they leave.
Collect the independent algorithm response or worksheet and check for correct use of sequencing, vocabulary, and understanding of one human body process. Use partner discussion and oral responses as informal assessment during the lesson.
Choose one human body system and write 3 to 5 code-like steps that describe how it works. Include at least two vocabulary words and bring it back tomorrow.
