Space | Assessment Review
Students review key health concepts about personal space, boundaries, and safe choices through quick discussion, modeling, and a short partner practice. This lesson is designed as a fast, teacher-led review for Grade 3.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| personal space | The area around your body that belongs to you and helps you feel comfortable and safe. |
| boundary | A limit that shows what is okay and what is not okay. |
| respect | Treating others and their space the way you want to be treated. |
| trusted adult | A grown-up who listens, helps, and keeps you safe. |
| comfortable | Feeling safe, calm, and okay with what is happening. |
Show a visual or stand in place and ask, 'How much space do I need to feel comfortable?' Briefly review that everyone has a personal space bubble.
Think, then share one idea about why space matters.
Ask quick questions: 'What is personal space?' 'How do you tell someone to back up?' 'What should you do if someone touches you in a way you do not like?' Reinforce calm, clear language.
Respond with short answers and repeat key phrases such as 'Please step back' and 'I need space.'
Read 3 short scenarios and ask students to decide if the action shows respectful space or not. Model a response if needed. Example: 'A classmate stands very close in line.' 'A friend asks before giving a high-five.' 'Someone keeps touching your things after you said stop.'
Thumbs up/down or explain whether the behavior respects boundaries and what to do next.
Have students practice one respectful sentence and one help-seeking sentence, such as 'Please give me space' and 'I need to talk to a trusted adult.'
Repeat and practice with a partner using a calm voice and body posture.
Review the big idea: personal space helps us stay safe and comfortable. Praise specific examples of clear communication and respectful choices.
Share one thing they learned or one sentence they can use later.
End by having students repeat: 'My body, my space, my choice to ask for help.' Remind them that respectful space and clear words help keep everyone safe and comfortable.
