Human Body | Whole Class
Students learn basic coding ideas by using simple algorithms and sequencing to model how the human body works. They will act out and build code-like steps for body systems such as breathing, digestion, and movement.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Algorithm | A set of steps to finish a task. |
| Sequence | The order the steps happen in. |
| Debug | To find and fix a mistake in steps or code. |
| Loop | Something that repeats again and again. |
| System | Parts that work together to do a job. |
Ask students to move like different body parts: breathe in and out, walk in place, stretch, and blink. Introduce the idea that the body follows steps to do jobs.
Move with the teacher and share ideas about what body parts are working.
Explain that an algorithm is a list of steps. Model a simple everyday example, such as brushing teeth, then connect it to a body process like breathing.
Listen, repeat the key words, and help put the steps in order.
Choose one body system, such as the breathing system. Write simple step cards on the board, such as inhale, lungs fill, exhale, repeat. Have students help arrange the steps correctly.
Work together to sequence the steps and identify any repeated actions.
Give groups or the whole class a simple body process to code with cards or on paper. Guide students to create a sequence and include a loop where the action repeats.
Create a step-by-step code path for one body process and act it out if time allows.
Show a code sequence with one mistake. Ask students to find the error and explain how to fix it.
Point out the mistake and suggest the correct order.
Invite students to share their sequences and explain the body system they modeled.
Present their work and listen to classmates.
Review the big idea: the human body works like a system, and coding uses clear steps in the right order. Ask students to name one body system and one coding word they learned.
Teacher observation during group work, sequencing, and debugging; collect student step cards or paper sequences to check understanding.
Draw one human body system at home and write 3 simple steps showing how it works using coding words like first, next, and last.
