Theme | Centers
Students will practice spelling words connected to a theme through hands-on literacy centers. They will sort, build, write, and read theme-related words to strengthen spelling patterns and word recognition.

Introduce the theme and review 6-8 theme words. Model one center briefly and explain how students will rotate.
Listen, repeat the words, and ask questions about center expectations.
Provide picture and word cards for students to match and sort by theme.
Match pictures to words and sort them into the correct theme group.
Model building one word with letter tiles, then support students as needed.
Use letter tiles to build theme words and check spelling with a partner.
Give a recording sheet with trace-and-write or independent write lines.
Write each theme word and underline the tricky letters or spelling pattern.
Provide a short themed list or simple cards for read-aloud practice.
Read the words, draw one matching picture, and share one word with a partner.
Review the theme words and ask students to name one word they spelled well.
Share one favorite word and describe what helped them spell it.
Revisit the theme words as a class and celebrate effort. Ask students to name one word they can now spell without help and one center that helped them learn best.
Send home a short list of 5 theme words. Students should practice reading and spelling the words with a family member and complete a simple write-the-word practice sheet.
