Look at pictures, share ideas, and name things people need and want.
Explain that in Ancient Rome, people had jobs such as farmers, builders, merchants, and soldiers. Use picture cards to model goods and services and connect each job to what it provides.
Listen, repeat vocabulary, and sort pictures into goods and services with help.
Give each group role cards or picture cards. Guide students to act out a simple market where one person has wheat, another has cloth, and another has pottery. Prompt them to trade for something they need.
Take turns playing buyers and sellers, practice simple trades, and explain what they exchanged.
Lead groups in matching Roman jobs to the goods or services they provide. Ask questions like, 'Who makes the bread?' and 'Who builds the house?'
Work together to match jobs with products or services and share answers aloud.
Ask students to draw one Ancient Rome job and one good or service connected to it. Support students with sentence frames if needed.
Draw, label, and explain their picture to a partner or teacher.
Invite a few students to share one fact about Ancient Rome's economy and one trade example.
Share one idea and listen to classmates.
Review: Ancient Rome had many jobs, and people traded goods and services to get what they needed. Ask students to complete the sentence, 'In Ancient Rome, people traded because ____.'
Teacher observes small group participation during the market trade and checks student drawings/labels for understanding of jobs, goods, services, and trade. Use the checks list to record mastery.
