Plants | Assessment Review
Students will review basic plant knowledge using simple computer science skills such as following directions, sorting, and identifying patterns. This short lesson is designed as a quick assessment review for Grade 2.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| plant | A living thing that grows and needs water, air, sunlight, and soil. |
| root | The part of the plant that grows under the ground and helps hold the plant in place. |
| stem | The part that supports the plant and carries water. |
| leaf | The part of the plant that helps it make food from sunlight. |
| sequence | Things put in the correct order. |
| sort | To group things that are alike. |
Show a plant picture and ask students to name parts they see. Review that plants need water, sunlight, air, and soil.
Say plant parts aloud and share ideas about what plants need.
Explain that computers follow steps in order. Model a simple sequence: 1) look, 2) think, 3) answer. Ask students to repeat the steps.
Repeat the steps and practice saying them in order.
Show plant cards or write words on the board. Ask students to sort items into groups such as plant parts or plant needs.
Help sort and match the cards or words to the correct group.
Ask yes/no or choice questions: 'Which part is under the ground?' 'What do plants need to grow?' 'What comes first in our sequence?'
Answer orally and explain choices in simple words.
Restate the key idea: plants grow when we follow the correct steps and understand their parts and needs.
Listen and give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down to show understanding.
Ask students to show with fingers 1, 2, or 3 how well they can name plant parts, plant needs, and use steps in order. Celebrate their review work.
