Display 5–6 character-analysis words with letters missing or rearranged. Model one example, then have students solve the rest independently and check with a partner.
Write the correct spellings, compare answers, and underline any words they spelled incorrectly.
Briefly review each vocabulary word, emphasizing tricky letter patterns, syllables, and common misspellings. Pronounce each word clearly and have students repeat.
Choral repeat each word, mark difficult spelling patterns, and ask for clarification as needed.
Give students cards/slips with vocabulary words and definitions. Ask them to match terms to definitions, then arrange words from easiest to hardest to spell and explain their choices.
Match terms to meanings, justify spelling difficulty, and revise any incorrect matches.
Provide short character descriptions or sentence frames. Model how to use 2–3 vocabulary words accurately in a sentence about a character.
Write four original analytical sentences using different vocabulary words, focusing on correct spelling and punctuation.
Post or distribute a short paragraph containing several intentional spelling errors in the vocabulary words. Guide students to identify and correct them with a partner.
Find errors, correct spellings, and explain each correction to a partner using the word aloud.
Ask students to complete a quickwrite: choose one character and describe that character using at least three vocabulary words spelled correctly.
Write a short paragraph that demonstrates both understanding and correct spelling of the vocabulary.
Invite a few students to share one sentence or correction. Highlight strong spelling strategies and tricky patterns.
Listen, self-check, and note one word they still need to study.
End by asking students to name one vocabulary word they can now spell confidently and one word they will review again. Reinforce the idea that accurate spelling supports clear literary analysis.
Write a 1-paragraph character analysis of a novel, story, or film character using at least five vocabulary words from the lesson, all spelled correctly.
