Repeat, spell aloud, and notice letter patterns.
Give each group a short character excerpt. Ask students to read it quietly and identify 2–3 traits.
Read the excerpt and discuss possible character traits.
Guide groups to write each trait word correctly and pair it with a text detail that supports it.
Write the trait words, check spelling, and match each word to evidence from the text.
Call on one or two groups to share a trait, its spelling, and the evidence.
Present answers and listen for correct spelling and reasoning.
Ask each student to write one character trait from the lesson and use it in a sentence or evidence phrase.
Complete the quick written check independently.
Review the correct spelling of the class’s most common trait words and ask students what evidence helped them choose those words.
Teacher observation of group work plus the exit check will be used to assess correct spelling and basic character analysis.
Choose a character from a book, movie, or show. Write 3 character traits, spell each correctly, and give one piece of evidence for each trait.
