Show a real plant or picture. Ask: What do you notice? Point to the root, stem, leaves, and flower.
Look closely, name plant parts if they know them, and share quick observations.
Briefly review plant parts and plant needs using pictures on the board. Model one example of sorting a picture into 'plant part' or 'plant need'.
Repeat key words and watch the model.
Hand out a worksheet with matching or coloring tasks. Students independently match plant parts to pictures.
Work quietly to match and color the plant parts.
Give students picture cards to sort into two groups: things plants need and things plants do not need. Circulate and support as needed.
Sort cards independently and explain choices to a partner if finished early.
Ask students to draw and label one plant, including at least two parts and one need of the plant.
Draw and label their plant picture.
Invite a few students to share one plant part or one thing a plant needs. Reinforce correct answers.
Share one idea and listen to classmates.
Review the four plant parts and the four things plants need. End by asking students to point to one part of a plant and name one thing it needs to grow.
